President’s Voice – August 2023
Hello BARW,
I hope this message finds you well and staying cool in this 100-degree heat. While the temps say it’s still summer, we are quickly approaching the last quarter of 2023, which signals Fall and some important club business that needs to be attended to and important upcoming Houston Elections.
First our club business: At our August meeting we will vote on a Nominating Committee. Their job will be to select candidates to fill the positions for your 2024 BARW Executive Board. The Committee will present the slate of candidates at our September meeting, and we, the club members, will vote on the slate at the October Meeting. Please be open to taking one of these positions if called upon. (President, 1st VP Programs, 2nd VP Membership, Secretary, Corresponding Secretary and Treasurer) Even better, if you would like to serve, please let a current board member or a member of the Nominating Committee know. The success of any organization lies with its members and political organizations are no different.
Also, fast approaching is our 30th Annual Lincoln Day Dinner on September 15th. The Committee has been hard at work to make this the best one yet and everyone’s participation is critical to the success of this event. Please consider donating an auction item and of course attending and bringing several of your friends. Look for more information on this event tucked into this Newsletter.
Next is the TFRW Convention in Ft. Worth, Oct. 12th – 14th. Early registration has ended but we still have delegate spots if you would like to attend. (see www.tfrw.org or contact me).
November 7th is the Uniform Election Day for the City of Houston. Early Voting will be October 23rd through Nov. 3rd. We will be voting for the Mayor, City Council, Comptroller etc. I can’t stress enough how important this election will be to those who live inside the Houston city limits. Every Republican must turn out and make their voice heard. I know it seems like a long way off, but I don’t want it to sneak up on anyone. Mark your calendars now. We don’t want to become Chicago! More information will be shared when it becomes available.
Lastly, on the National level there is no good news. The Biden administration exemplifies the adage that Elections have consequences, but not even those of us who live and breathe this stuff could have foreseen this debacle. Sadly, we are not even sure who is running the country. Prayer is the order of the day. One good thing is that we live in Texas and that mitigates some of Biden’s disastrous policies.
Stay well, stay positive, stay faithful to our core beliefs and be a Truthteller!
Debbie Roan
