President’s Voice – October 2023
Hello BARW,
Here we are 1/3 of the way through October and approximately 13 days away from the start of early voting. Although these are called the “off-year” elections, I believe they have real and profound consequences on our everyday lives. They may be off-year in the big picture, but who our mayor is for the next 4 years and who will represent us on City Council both in District E and all the At-Large positions will make a big difference in the quality of life for those who reside in the City of Houston and the surrounding areas.
In keeping with one of our primary objectives, “To promote an informed electorate through political education,” this Newsletter is chockful of information on the upcoming elections. I have put together an “Election Box” with links to the Constitutional Propositions, your Sample ballot, which has the City of Houston Propositions and the CCISD Propositions. The CCISD Prop. A is the most confusing, so Scott Bowen our CCISD Trustee At Large has done a write up to explain all them all. Thank you, Scott! I have also included some Early Voting locations.
As always, all this information and explanation is for your edification only. The ultimate decision on whether to vote yay or nay is up to you, but at least you will feel confident in the decisions you make. However, all the information in the world doesn’t matter if you don’t vote, so most importantly VOTE!
If you have any additional questions, please feel free to reach out to myself, Scott, one of our elected officials or one of the candidates.
I hope to see you at our mixer on Tuesday, Oct. 10th. (thank goodness the Astros have an afternoon game) and at our next General Meeting on the 24th.
Be well, be informed and VOTE!
Debbie Roan
