Featured Guest Speaker: Sophia Mafrige, President of the Greater Houston Council of Federated Republican Women
Sophia Mafrige currently serves as President of the Greater Houston Council of Federated Republican Women. She has been a GHC Board member for several years, and previously served as Chaplain, Historian, and 3rd V-P of Special Events. She is a Past President  of Magic Circle Republican Women and currently serves as Parliamentarian. She is an Associate member of multiple Republican Women’s Clubs, and was an Honoree in the 2014 and 2012 Texas Federation of Republican Women’s Tribute to Women.
In her professional life, Sophia is an attorney with her own practice. Her legal career has spanned over 3 decades and delved into all levels of litigation, transactional and real estate/ property matters. Graduating with her law degree from South Texas College of Law in 1988, which included a summer program in law at Oxford University, Sophia became a licensed attorney with the State Bar of Texas that same year then launched her own law practice in 1991. She has handled a broad range of civil litigation matters. Throughout, she has represented individuals, corporations and small businesses on both sides of the docket in cases involving monetary amounts ranging from hundreds to millions of dollars.
In 2008 Sophia was appointed to serve as a Commissioner for the City of Houston Police Officers’ Civil Service Commission, and was elected to and still serves as Chairman of the Commission.
Sophia is a board member and Past President [2013-2015] of the Downtown Houston Pachyderm Club, member of the Greater Houston Pachyderm Club, and serves on the National Pachyderm Foundation Board.
Sophia has sought judicial office in the Republican primary, or as the Republican nominee, in 1998, 2012, 2016 and 2018. Her campaign slogan of “Mama Mia Vote for Sophia” in honor of her mom still follows her!
Sophia has volunteered for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital by serving on the Houston Gala committee since 2006.
Sophia is a lifetime member of St. George Orthodox Christian Church where for approximately 20 years she served as an elected member of the Parish Council and held office as Parish Council President, Vice-President and Secretary for multiple terms in each role, and, was appointed in 2012 to the Legal Affairs Committee for the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the U.S.A.
